Suspicious materials were found near the Franklin Square Public Library, on Lincoln Road in Franklin Square, on April 6, and authorities ordered an evacuation of the building around 12:50 p.m., according to the Nassau County Police Department.

Diane Gregory, who served as the library’s librarian-in-charge on April 6, said that officers had told her to evacuate immediately due to an anonymous bomb threat that had been called in, regarding a bomb in the parking lot located on the east side of Lincoln Road, across the street from the library.         Police said that they suspected a bomb had possibly been placed in a vehicle in the lot.

The library and surrounding area, including the parking lot, were evacuated and police closed off the area with caution tape, shortly after the call was placed.
According to Bill Youngfert, a member of the library’s Board of Trustees, the police department’s Bomb Squad told him around 2:30 p.m. that the scene had been declared safe, and that suspicious materials had been found. No other information was provided.

The materials are currently under investigation by the police department’s Bomb Squad. Local police and fire officials have not issued a release regarding this incident.

Lisa Paulo, the library’s director, said on Monday that she hadn’t received any updates from police on the incident. “I am just so glad that the staff of the library, as well as the public, were okay,” she added.

Local police and fire officials have not issued a release regarding this incident.
