Children celebrate culture at Elmont Memorial Library

The Indian American Forum held the second annual International Children’s Day at Elmont Memorial Library on Oct. 9, to showcase culture through dances and music.

The program started with the Indian traditional Lighting of the Lamp ceremony, followed by the American and Indian national anthems. Children, ages 6 to 18, as well as adults, from India, Korea, China, Italy, Mexico and the Caribbean performed traditional cultural dances and songs. An essay competition was also held: “What can we learn from other Countries?”

The cultural program was organized by Jaya Bahadkar, the IAF's socio cultural chair. The program's guest of honor was Dr. Adrienne Robb — the new superintendent of District 13.
