Elmont man arrested for robbery

Nassau County police have arrested an Elmont man for a robbery that occurred in the early morning hours of Feb. 28.

According to police, Joseph A. Chevez, 34, entered the Shell Gas Station at 1360 Hempstead Turnpike and demanded money from a 27 year-old male victim. The victim complied and Chevez fled the scene on foot northbound onto Covert Avenue. The police investigated and arrested Chevez in front of his house on Feb. 28 at 9:06 a.m. There were no reported injuries. The proceeds were an undetermined amount of cash.

Chevez is being charged with robbery. He was arraigned Monday at First District Court in Hempstead.
