A fundraiser, "Friday Night Fights for the Kids," was held at the Plattduetche Park Restaurant in Franklin Square on March 9 by local charity group Join A Cause for Kids, or J.A.C.K. — a group named after of Jack Perlungher, of Wantagh, who died from a rare kidney cancer in 2010 — which works to financially help local families dealing with rare diseases.
Amateur fighters from the NCPD, NYPD, PAPD and FDNY, and gyms throughout Long Island and New York City, competed. Ticket sales from the fights, as well as raffles and games, went toward the J.A.C.K. organization. Hundreds of local residents attended the event, raising thousands of dollars for the charity organization.
