Free golf for veterans at Eisenhower Park

Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano announced last week that Eisenhower Park will provide a free round of golf for veterans and active-duty personnel on Eisenhower Park’s Blue Course on Veterans Day, Nov. 11. Eligible golfers can choose to play nine or 18 holes.

“It gives me great pleasure to provide this small token of appreciation for our veterans, as well as those currently serving our nation in the military,” Mangano said. “The Blue course offers a terrific playing experience for both experienced and occasional golfers.”

To be eligible, golfers must present proof of Nassau County residency and either military identification (for active duty) or discharge papers (veterans); a Nassau County Veterans Leisure Passport is also acceptable. This offer involves walk-up games only (no reservations), and all other charges such as golf cart fees will apply.

The Blue course was designed in 1951 by Robert Trent Jones, a major 20th-century architect of American courses. Born in England in 1906, Jones emigrated to the U.S. as a youngster and ultimately embarked on a career that saw him create or remodel some 500 golf courses throughout the U.S. over the span of seven decades. The Blue course measures 6,049 yards from the middle tees and 5,717 yards from the forward tees.

Eisenhower Park’s extensive golf operation includes two other 18-hole courses (the championship Red and the White), a large driving range and a mini-golf course.
