Long Island and the greater New York metropolitan area are under a winter storm watch for Thursday into Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

Snow is expected to start falling between 8 and 10 a.m. Thursday morning and continue into the evening. Accumulations of 4 to 8 inches of snow are possible, and both the Elmont and Franklin Square libraries were closed.

“Travel could be very difficult. Hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute,” the NWS states.
