Posted

Nearly 1,000 local residents attended the Rock Out Cures a benefit concert on Sept. 24 at the Plattduetsche Park Restaurant in Franklin Square. A total of $35,000 was raised — a record amount for the annual event — for the American Cancer Society, the Wounded Warrior Project and the Long Island branches of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Network.

The concert, held in the outdoor biergarten, included performances by live local bands such as Hat Trick, Crash N Burn, Mixxed Company, Guilty Pleasures with Nick E Luv & Ralph Carbone, and Modern Justice. Prizes, raffles, kid activities until dawn, and food and beverages were also available.

Rock Out Cures was founded in February of 2008, and has grown to become a recognized 501c(3) nonprofit organization. Since 2008, the organization — which first went by the name "Rock out for Cancer," and was changed to "Rock Out Cures" in 2009 — has raised more than $80,000 for charity.
