Hundreds of students from the Sewanhaka Central High School District — comprised of five high schools — competed at the 19th annual Lee Markus Sewanhaka Inter-School District Model United Nations competition, held on April 21 this year, at the Floral Park Memorial High School, located at 210 Locust St. in Floral Park.

The Sewanhaka district's Model UN program is based on real United Nations processes. Students in the program are assigned to representatives various countries, from the United Kingdom to Azerbaijan, for which they conduct research and prepare debates, and then participate in detail-oriented debates at the district's annual SIDMUN competition.

Sewanhaka district students put forth their nations’ respective positions — through writing papers and conducting debates and resolutions, which were considered by committees and the Security Council — from 7:45 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Saturday.
