Teen struck by car near parkway entrance

A 14-year-old boy is in critical condition after he was hit by a car in North Valley Stream on Tuesday evening near the entrance to the Southern State Parkway. Police have arrested the driver, who had no license.

According to New York State Police, the teen was walking near the entrance ramp to the parkway at Exit 13 when a Ford Escape, being driven by 53-year-old Victoria Ruane, of Franklin Square, hit him. Police say she was attempting to enter the parkway from the northbound lanes of Central Avenue.

Ruane was charged with driving with a suspended license and having no insurance. The accident occurred at about 8:10 p.m.

The teen suffered severe head trauma and broken bones, and was taken to Nassau University Medical Center. He was later taken to North Shore-LIJ in New Hyde Park where he was listed in critical condition.
