After a woman withdrew a large sum of money from the TD Bank on Franklin Avenue in Franklin Square on July 10, she was approached outside the bank by a man and woman who allegedly told the woman, 57, that there were sharp tacks behind her tires in an attempt to distract her, police said.

The woman sidestepped them and got into her car and headed home. Outside her house another man who she also saw at the bank, according to police, approached her. There was a struggle, but the woman kept her money and other personal items. That man left in a Blue Chevrolet Equinox.

She called 911. Police responded and after a search of the area, they found the trio of alleged robbers.

Giovanni Perez Vega, 30, of Roosevelt Avenue, Queens; Maria Babon, 41 of 80th Street, Elmhurst; and Jorge Jimenez Lozano, 57 of 75th Street, Flushing were arrested.

Perez Vega was charged with attempted robbery. Lozano was charged with attempted robbery and tampering with physical evidence.

Babon was charged with attempted robbery and criminal impersonation. She allegedly misrepresented her identity and has multiple state warrants for similar incidents.

All three were to be arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead on July 11.

Police are asking the public, if they might have an alleged victim of the three to call Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1 (800) 244-8477 or 911.
