Denenberg running for State Senate
Michael Ganci/Herald
Nassau County Legislator Dave Denenberg, of Merrick, announced his candidacy for the State Senate’s 8th District seat at a press conference on Thursday afternoon at Seaford’s American Legion Post 1132.

Four key Democratic figures — State Sen. Michael Gianaris, chairman of the Senate’s Democratic Campaign Committee, Jay Jacobs, chairman of the Nassau Democratic Committee, Rich Schaffer, chairman of the Suffolk Democratic Committee and supervisor of the Town of Babylon, and Thomas DiNapoli, the state comptroller and the only Long Island Democrat currently holding statewide office — will be featured guests at the fundraiser, according to invitations for the event.

Undeterred by the Democratic support coalescing around Denenberg, Carmen Piñeyro, the Democratic deputy mayor of Freeport and a trustee of the village, has said she too is running in the State Senate race.
