Nassau County Legislator Dave Denenberg, of Merrick, announced his candidacy for the State Senate’s 8th District seat at a press conference on Thursday afternoon at Seaford’s American Legion Post 1132.

Dave Denenberg, the Merrick Democrat who has represented the Nassau County Legislature’s 19th District for 14 years, has decided he is ready to move from Mineola to Albany. He announced his candidacy for the State Senate’s 8th District seat at a press conference on Thursday afternoon at Seaford’s American Legion Post 1132.

More than 100 supporters, including a number wearing insignia identifying themselves as veterans or members of local labor unions, packed into the main meeting room at the Post to hear Denenberg deliver the first stump speech of his campaign. At Denenberg’s side was his wife, Cara, and other family members took front row seats. Also joining Denenberg in front of the crowd were several of his fellow Long Island Democrats, including Delia DeRiggi-Whitton, a county legislator; Carrié Solages, also a county legislator; Robert Kennedy, mayor of Freeport; Michael Santeramo, executive director of the Nassau County Democratic Committee; David Gugerty, a Town of Oyster Bay Democratic leader and chief of staff to the County Legislature’s Democratic caucus, who lost a bid for a seat in the County Legislature last year; Robert Stricoff, first vice chair of the Suffolk County Democratic Committee and chairman of the Town of Babylon Democratic Committee; and Adam Haber, a candidate for county executive last year who lost in a party primary.

Denenberg said that making Long Island more affordable for residents, improving education and aiding those still suffering in the wake of Hurricane Sandy were among his top priorities for office.

“Believe in our children, invest in our children, because we really can meet any obstacle,” Denenberg said. “That ‘Greatest Generation’ is coming. We just got to make sure that this place is here for them.”

Denenberg is wrong for Nassau County.

Denenberg is wrong for New York State.

Dave Denenberg , a typical "lock step" Democrat. With Denenberg in the NYS Senate, you run the risk of all the branches Democrat.

Then, you can kiss New York GOOD-BYE.

Common Core & NY SAFE Act will become the new "norm."

With the "extreme" Cuomo at the helm, and Denenberg filling Fuchillo's seat, the new motto for NYS will be PRESSUM, and not EXCELSIOR.

Oh no....here we go again. The last line of this article is too reminiscent of Obama's "We are the ones we've been waiting for!" Are the seas going stop rising now? Another Democrat is the last thing we need - of course I will note that he was surrounded by "union" members - say not more.....that is what's destroying this State and this country. Another crook holding office. I guess he'll fit right in then. From Cuomo (the HUD criminal) to Schumer (the Chief Criminal) to Gillibrand (the Puppet Criminal) and so on down the line. And they wonder why people are leaving New York. Astounding!
