Trustees acted on several agenda items, including declaring a parcel of land, approximately 50,000 square feet, near the Long Island Rail Road station that includes parts of six lots, as surplus property, and contracting with Questus Commercial Real Estate Fund to sell the site for $2.7 million.

Mayor Robert Kennedy said the proceeds from the sale would go into a reserve account, but that the property will be on the tax rolls and generate annual revenue for the general fund.

In a separate interview with Mayor Kennedy, he said the property was in contract and the Village has a $500,000 deposit from the developer who is looking to put in either a bank and a Starbucks or a restaurant - Miller’s Ale House.

Kennedy said that recent sales from Village property have all been placed in a reserve fund that has gone from $1.7 million to $7.3 million this year. “None of that money is to be used for the operating budget,” he said.

A contract was sent to the developer of the Plaza West property on Sunrise Highway. The developer has 45 days – Jan. 15 – to return the contract and sign the deal.

In other actions, the board approved retroactively the emergency purchase of control station system servers for the Electric Department from Advanced Control Systems Inc., of Norcross, Ga., for about $19,800.

It authorized two tax certiorari settlements affective 114 S. Long Beach Ave., and 103 Woodcleft Ave., for a total of $75,000.

The board amended traffic regulations to prohibit passing in the northbound lanes on S. Ocean Ave., between Richmond and Front streets, and on Nassau Avenue between Suffolk and Front streets; and southbound lanes on Miller Avenue between Richmond and Front streets. Mayor Kennedy said Village officials met with residents of these areas before make the decision to change the regulations.

The village board authorized requesting proposals and advertising for bids relating to the Electric Department power plant and street signs, and for the Department of Public Works asphalt paving and curb and sidewalk contracts.
