Freeport Fire Chief Thomas Butler led the Freeport Fire Department to a first place win in the Second Battalion Parade on Saturday in Oceanside. The Second Battalion Division consists of the Freeport, Baldwin, Oceanside, Island Park, Long Beach and Lido Beach fire departments. There are nine battalions in Nassau County. The department was judged by the Nassau County parade officials.

“They use a gig sheet to determine which department has the fewest gigs or mistakes and they are the winners,” Raymond Maguire, executive director of the Freeport Fire Department said.

The Freeport Fire Department also participated in the New York State Old Fashioned Championship Drill held in Hempstead on Friday. Hose One – Nighthawks took first place in the running hose event, second place in the efficiency replacement event and fourth place in buckets. Freeport’s Dead End Kids from Excelsior Hook and Ladder Company Number One took third place in the efficiency replacement event, the two in one event and in buckets.
