Blaze destroys Freeport's Emergency Ambulance Service facility

Arson Bomb Squad is investigating

 More than two dozen fire departments responded to a fire Saturday morning that left a key ambulance facility in ruins.

Flames had already engulfed the Emergency Ambulance Service building at 30 Commercial St., by the time first responders arrived just after 11 a.m. The Freeport Fire Department joined 26 other departments and 150 personnel on the efforts to extinguish the flames.

The initial call was created by an automatic fire alarm, which appeared to initially involve vehicles on fire, before spreading. The blaze is now under investigation by the Arson Bomb Squad. 

Two Freeport firemen and a Northwell medical technicial suffered smoke inhalation injuries, and were taken to a nearby hospital. The fire itself partically collapsed the Emergency Ambulance Service buildling. 

The investigation is ongoing.
