Rotary partners with local food pantries

Posted

Freeport-Merrick Rotary President Marc Rigueur wrote a message to the public regarding the Rotary’s two-month campaign (Oct. 1-Nov. 26) to collect food for needy Long Islanders:

Thank you for your interest in knowing more about our community food drive endeavor. Every year the Freeport Merrick Rotary Club donates to food pantries within the Freeport and Merrick community with funds raised directly from members of our club. This year we are taking it a step further by organizing a food collection drive to further assist our community. Due to the pandemic, the need for food is greater now than it has ever been in any recent disaster. Local food pantries like the Community CupBoard and the Salvation Army are being pushed to the limit to keep up with providing food for struggling families. The Freeport-Merrick Rotary Club is trying to do their part in partnering up with and assisting these local food pantries.

Currently, we have one drop-off location at 294 West Merrick Road in Freeport. A donation bin is available weekly between 9am and 6pm for anyone looking to donate nonperishable food towards this food collection endeavor. The Freeport-Merrick Rotary Club is also collecting donations towards this endeavor with more information provided on our website at www.freeportmerrickrotary.org.

Regards,

Marc Rigueur, President
