LBHS names class of 2015 top students

Long Beach High School is proud to recognize Maegan Miciotta and Corey Ochs as the Class of 2015 valedictorian and salutatorian, respectively.

The two seniors are heavily involved in academics, while Miciotta is also an impressive music achiever and Ochs has earned remarkable athletic accomplishments. Both students successfully completed the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program and received their graduation stoles at a ceremony held June 2.

Miciotta is a member of National Honor Society and serves as secretary for the Tri-M Music Honor Society. She also participates in Model Congress, Gay-Straight Alliance, Chorus, Jazz and Show Choir, Drama Production and Musical Production. Miciotta was selected to the All-State Mixed Chorus earlier this school year and is a seven-time All-County performer. She will attend the University of Delaware next fall as a member of the Honors Program and plans to major in Music Education.

Ochs is a National Honor Society student as well, and is also involved with the Forensics Club and Athletes Helping Athletes group. He is an All-Conference soccer and tennis player and an All-County swimmer, and serves as captain for all three sports’ varsity teams this year.

Ochs was also featured as a News 12 Scholar Athlete and was named New York State’s winner of the Wendy’s High School Heisman Award. He additionally helped to run the high school’s annual Badminton for Breast Cancer event this year, and also volunteers at the Theresa Academy for Performing Arts.

He will be attending the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he plans to major in Spanish and take science pre-requisites with the goal of continuing on to medical school.
