Long Beach police cordoned off a section West Park Avenue on Monday night after they said a man threatening suicide had barricaded himself in his home.

According to police, the incident occurred just before 11 p.m., after the department received an emergency call reporting that a man with thoughts of suicide was inside his home along the 400 block of West Park Avenue.

Long Beach police officers arrived on the scene, set up a perimeter and notified Nassau County’s Bureau of Special Operations and Long Beach Police Commissioner Michael Tangney, who also responded to the scene.

LBPD spokesman Lt. Eric Cregeen said that the man was secured without incident at 1:39 a.m. and transported to Nassau University Medical Center by a county ambulance.

“A Nassau County hostage negotiator was also notified,” Cregeen said. “The officers maintained contact with the aided and eventually convinced him to surrender voluntarily.”
