Rockville Centre welcomes its newest restaurant, The Corner Grill, which replaces the former Prime Catch. What we have here is a comfy bistro that aims to please a wide range of tastes and moods. Whether you stop in for a pre-movie snack, cocktails, Sunday brunch, or a soup-to-nuts dinner, the choices are available. Quality and preparation is spot on, and prices, surprisingly reasonable.

Ambiance is warm and inviting. While the decor is contemporary, with 20-foot high ceilings, brick walls and colorful embellishments, the space is remarkably cozy. Up front is a sociable bar; the dining area is behind a dividing wall.

According to the owner, “Every hour at The Corner Grill is Happy Hour, whether you’re sitting at bar or in the dining room.” This means a glass of wine is $6, ANY bottle of beer is $3.75, and a draught beer is $6. With Sunday brunch, the first cocktail is free, and each after that, $3.

A basket of warm, homemade focaccia launched the meal. French onion soup, slathered with melted Swiss and mozzarella cheese, was superb. Fried Goat Cheese Wheels – panko-crusted disks of goat cheese on a bed of lemon-dressed baby greens – was like a salad topped with an appetizer. Crisp Killer Popcorn Shrimp was tender with a nice kick, served with Tabasco mayo for dipping.

Cooked to perfection, Filet of Sole & Shrimp Scampi (one dish) was finished with luscious garlic and wine sauce, served with fresh broccoli and rosemary roasted potatoes. Mediterranean Chicken, sided with the same, was boneless breast layered with tomato slices and spinach, topped with feta cheese and pesto – just yummy.

With coffee (check out their specialty versions), we were wowed by the decadent Chocolate Fudge Brownie Sundae – enormous, more than enough for two. My next visit will include the Belgian waffle with ice cream and Hershey fudge… or maybe the tiramisu.
