As she moves into the archiving portion of the project, she hopes that the information she gathers will be helpful to environmental and disaster researchers. Researchers, she said, use this information to analyze how people respond to storm warnings and evacuations and how they prepare for disasters. They may use her information to figure out how to better prepare communities for such events, and how to use different language or approaches to make people take storm warnings seriously.

“Well, next year everybody is going to evacuate,” she said, “but what about 10 years from now? How do we tell people, and not exaggerate. How do we construct warnings that people will listen to?”
