Lifeguard Memorial One-Mile Swim

On Sunday, Aug. 21 at 9 a.m., the Long Beach Department of Parks and Recreation and the city’s Beach Patrol will host the Lifeguard Memorial Swim on National Boulevard beach. The one-mile swim is in honor of all the deceased men and women who have served on the patrol. All swimmers over the age of 16 who can swim one mile in 55 minutes or less, are invited to participate. "Dirty Dancing” on the beach

Beachgoers can see “Dirty Dancing” on Saturday, Aug. 20, at Neptune Boulevard beach at 7 p.m. The West End Neighbors Civic Association, Westholme Civic Association, North East Bay and Canals Civic Association, and Eastholme Civic Association are hosting Movie Nights on the Beach events this year. All events will take place on Saturdays through Sept. 17 (except Sept. 10). Farmers Market at Kennedy Plaza

Visit the Kennedy Plaza Farmers Market at 1 West Chester St. through Nov. 23, on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. For 10 years, the popular market, which runs through Nov. 23, has featured regional producers offering fresh products including organic vegetables, corn, heirloom tomatoes, potatoes, fresh fruits and juices, cheese, milk, wine, pasta, pickles, smoked pork, soaps and preserves, shellfish and regional fish, baked goods and more.
