Fanny Elovich, a former administrator for the New York State Department of Health, and a long-time Long Beach resident, died of natural causes on Sept. 2 at Long Beach Medical Center. She was 100-years-old.

Elovich was born on Sept. 11, 1911 and lived in Long Beach since 1950 with her husband, Sol, who pre-deceased her at the age of 87.

She is survived by her two children, Larry Elovich, 77, and Eleanor Glanstein, 67; five grandchildren; Lisa, Lauree, Lynn, David and Stacey; and 10 great-grandchildren.

“She was a dynamic woman who read the New York Times until she was 99-years-old, when her eyes started to fail her,” said her son, Larry, a well-known local attorney.

Larry said his mother enjoyed reading and travelling to her home in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., with her husband during the winter months.

“She lived in a world that started where there were no automobiles — horse and buggy — and saw things change where men landed on the moon,” Larry said. “She saw it all, knew it all and lived it all.”

Services were scheduled for Thursday at 10 a.m. at Gutterman’s Funeral Home in Rockville Centre. A burial will follow at Beth Moses Jewish Cemetery in Farmingdale.
