A young boy was rescued from drowning at the Long Beach High School pool on Wednesday afternoon.

According to a Nassau County Police Department spokeswoman, lifeguards on site pulled the nine-year-old boy from the pool, and administered CPR.

Point Lookout-Lido Fire Chief Brian Guerin said the department received a call at 4 p.m., and it, as well as the NCPD, responded to the pool with ambulances.

The boy was breathing on his own when he was taken via ambulance to Nassau University Medical Center, the spokeswoman said.

He was at the pool as part of the Long Beach Recreation Department Sports Camp. Recreation Department Commissioner Bob Piazza reached out to the parents of the kids in the program, assuring them that the child is ok and that the city is serious about safety.

“A review of the incident is occurring to confirm that all proper procedures were followed in accordance with camp and Nassau County Heath Department guidelines,” Piazza said. “As a precaution, additional steps will be implemented to assure that your children continue to remain safe in our care.”
