Volunteer at soup kitchen
The Long Beach Soup Kitchen seeks highly-skilled, fast paced, energetic volunteers that are pleasant, caring, and courteous to do food prep, cook, serve and clean up crews. Thanksgiving food drive
With Thanksgiving approaching, the Outreach Center at St. Mary’s Church is preparing their annual food basket drive and will distribute the donations to needy families a week before the holiday. In addition, the parish opens its doors at 11 a.m. on Thanksgiving Day to provide a complete dinner to needy families at the parish, located at the corner of East Park Avenue and Monroe Boulevard. Canned goods, fruits, soups, yams, dry mashed potatoes, stuffing mix, turkey gravy, parmalat milk, instant non-fat dry milk, vegetables and other non-perishables are needed. Donates may be dropped off Mon., Tues, Thurs. and Fri. between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m., or at the rectory, at 315 E. Walnut St. from Mon. to Fri. from 12 to 4 p.m. For information, call director Blanca Cales at 432-0157 ext. 17, or Gloria Febrizio at 375-5482.


Donate cell phones
The Lions Club of Long Beach is sponsoring an ongoing cell phone drive to collect phones to provide service men and women with free calling cards to stay in touch with their loved ones. Drop off your used cell phones at the following locations:Citibank on E. Park Avenue; Laurel Cleaners on W. Park Ave. & Laurelton Blvd.; The Whales Tale and Joe Sinona Realty, both on West Beech Street in the West End. For information, call Joe Sinona at 897-2700.


Leo Club launched

The Long Beach Lions Clubs have been meeting with potential members of its Leo Club, the organization’s youth division. Club members will be involved in helping the blind and serving our community.
