Long Beach Catholic School students design T-shirts for boardwalk fun run

Posted

With the support of Long Beach Catholic Regional School Principal Veronica Danca, the school’s 7th grade class entered an art competition to design T-shirts for the upcoming Leukemia & Lymphoma Spring Fun Run on the boardwalk on April 24.

Each child drew their own interpretation of the theme “Go Team!” as instructed by art teacher Lauren Hedge. Five finalists were chosen and the winning design will be featured on fun run T-shirts at the race. Bob McIntyre, event coordinator, cancer patient and volunteer for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, visited the class to educate the students about the blood-related cancers that cause over 50,000 deaths per year. The cancers originate in the bone marrow or lymphatic tissues, and involve the uncontrolled growth of cells in the body, which interfere with healthy blood cells.

All funds collected from the fun run will be used for research to cure blood cancer diseases.
