A Long Beach resident and Hempstead High School theater teacher is facing grand larceny charges over accusations that she used the school district to buy and sell computers, according to News 12.

Theresa Cucina, 55, allegedly bought more than $140,000 worth of computers through the district, repackaged them and then shipped the stolen equipment out of John F. Kennedy Airport to an unknown location, according to Newsday.

Cucina was taken into custody at the school district’s administrative building on Peninsula Boulevard on Tuesday, according to Newsday, and detectives with the NYPD’s Midtown South Precinct are handling the case.

She was arraigned Tuesday in Manhattan Criminal Court and charged with second-degree grand larceny. She was released on her own recognizance.

Cucina — who has worked for the Hempstead Union Free School District for five years — allowed a third party to use the district’s email to purchase the computers “in exchange for $2,000,” according to Newsday.
