Man charged in Long Beach murder

Police last week arrested a man they believe shot and killed a fellow Long Beach resident on the city’s streets last month.

Casey Fitzgerald, 20, of Long Beach was arrested and charged with second-degree murder in Chesterfield County in Virginia on Friday, April 16. According to police, Fitzgerald, who lived at 31 Hudson Street in Long Beach, shot and killed Ernest Cummings, 46, outside a home at 19 E. Hudson Street, at about 3:34 p.m. on March 22.

As of Wednesday, Fitzgerald was awaiting extradition proceedings, and Nassau County Police Department, which took over the investigation from the Long Beach Police Department following the shooting, had no further information on the arrest.
