Pedestrian killed on Jericho Turnpike

A woman was struck and killed by a sport utility vehicle on Tuesday as she was crossing Jericho Turnpike in Garden City Park, Nassau County police said.

According to police, the incident occurred on Nov. 12 at 6:45 p.m., when 68-year-old Susan Katz, of Roslyn, was walking across Jericho Turnpike west of Herricks Road, from north to south, when she was struck by a 2012 Jeep Liberty. Police said that the driver of the vehicle, a 42-year-old Long Beach woman whose name was not disclosed, was heading west when she struck Katz.

Katz was taken to Winthrop-University Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 10:36 p.m. by hospital staff, police said. No charges have been filed against the driver, and police said that no criminality is suspected at this time.
