Ideal wave conditions could mean start of quarterfinals tonight

(ASP) - Red-hot action at the Quiksilver Pro New York, event No. 6 of 11 on the 2011 ASP World Title season, will recommence this morning with the remaining Round 3 heats hitting the water at 8 a.m. in offshore four-foot (1 metre) peaks in Long Island.

“We’re seeing some good conditions this morning with increased swell and offshore wind,” Rich Porta, ASP International Head Judge, said. “We’ll begin at 8 a.m. with the remaining Round 3 heats and look to move through Rounds 4 and 5 and have even put the Quarterfinals on standby for tonight. We want to capitalize on the best of this swell so we’re expecting a big day of competition.”

Up first this morning will be Josh Kerr, 27, (AUS) against Raoni Monteiro (BRA), 29, in Heat 5 of Round 3.

Surfline, official forecasters for the Quiksilver Pro New York, are calling for solid SE swell from Hurricane Katia is expected today into early tomorrow. Katia swell will be fading Friday through the day. Small scale surf is expected for the weekend.
