For nearly 60 years, Sherwood has been a go-to spot for meals and snacks at any hour. Still celebrating the diner's Grand Re-opening, its owners have spent the last three months renovating the interior. The sleek new look makes dining a pleasure, and they've added a spacious party room that can accommodate 60.

George Hadjizacharia, his wife, Michele, and their partner, Peter Parpounas, purchased Sherwood Diner 13 years ago. As Michele had been a waitress, and George had worked his way from a busboy to grill man on up, there was solid savvy on the workings of a restaurant. They kept the existing personnel, the most popular menu items, and continued to enhance things. Much of their staff has been there for decades.

Just about anything — from pancakes to paella — can be found on the menu. Included are burgers, wraps, Mexican, Italian and Greek specialties, paninis and every entree and dessert imaginable. "Two for Twenty Six" dinners include potato and vegetable or pasta, a cup of soup, salad, a glass of wine or soda, and dessert. And for children, kid-friendly Robin Hood-themed meals come with beverage and dessert ($6.95-$8.95).

Brought immediately were a diverse bread basket and freshly made cole slaw and macaroni salad. What impressed us most was the quality of the seafood. Whatever we tried was prepared to perfection — moist and tender, never overcooked. Coconut shrimp were fresh and crisp, drizzled with sweet pina colada sauce. Fried calamari could rival the finest, and was served with marinara.

While salad is an option with entrees, "Super Salads" ($9.65-$11.45) can be ordered as a meal. We adored the Sherwood special - mesclun greens topped with cucumbers, tomatoes, red onions, walnuts, artichoke hearts, cranberries and crumbled gorgonzola, dressed with raspberry vinaigrette.
