Third annual Stoked Fest to be held at Jetty

The third annual Stoked Fest is set for Oct. 24 at Jetty Bar & Grill, 832 W. Beech St. The film festival is geared toward families and kids and is part of the continued revitalization of Long Beach in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, said organizer Terrence Mulligan.

Mulligan said that Stoked Fest is a way to bring film and culture to local kids and families, and there will be a red carpet event and other activities at Jetty.

The event is being presented by Jet Blue and Skudin Surf Camp and features short films from Long Island and New York City. This year the spotlight is on some award winning shorts such as “Deadly,” a comedic animated short that won a recent best short award at the Galway Fleadh.

“Long Beach is still starving for some culture after the summer tourist season,” Mulligan said.

A portion of the proceeds goes to the Long Beach Lightning Mite Hockey Team.

“I coach the Mites, so this will help get them to a tournament during Presidents Week,” Mulligan added. “Jetty is matching our donation as well!”

The event starts at 5 p.m. with the red carpet event for kids; photos will be posted on Facebook afterward.

“We wanted to make this interactive for the kids and families,” Mulligan said. “Expect to see specially selected shorts and recent award-winners as Red Ball and Barbershop.

Stoked Fest is organized by the producers of the successful Craic festival, which has run in New York since 1999. Raffle prizes include a “win a trip” by Jet Blue as well as items donated by Skudin.

The event will also feature free popcorn and other snacks. Doors at 5 p.m., and is $10 for adults and kids. The event is for kids ages 5 and up. For more information, call (917) 373-6735 or visit facebook.com/stokedfest.
