The driver of a tractor-trailer was trapped in his vehicle after an electrical pole fell on the truck in Long Beach Wednesday evening.

According to Long Beach Fire Department Chief Richard Corbett, the driver, a non-Long Beach resident, was traveling on Lindell Boulevard at West Hudson Street at around 6:30 p.m. The driver, he said, snagged a power line attached to a pole at a nearby corner. The man was unaware of the snagged wire, and continued on when the pole snapped and landed between the cab of the truck and the trailer.

"He didn't realize it," Corbett said. "It came down on his truck. He was an experienced driver-he knew to stay inside until the fire department got there."

Corbett said that units arrived within minutes, and spent a half hour at the scene. No injuries were reported, he said.

"Fire department units got there, we communicated with the driver," he said. "We told him to stay inside until the power was cut."

Corbett said that units secured the area and contacted the Long Island Power Authority. They arrived on scene quickly, he said, and cut power to the area.

"Once it was cut, he got out," Corbett said of the driver. "There were no injuries. LIPA replaced the pole, and power was back on within an hour."
