Walk like an Egyptian

Long Beach Middle School creates ancient history

Posted

To demonstrate their knowledge of ancient Egypt, sixth graders at Long Beach Middle School turned their school library into an interactive museum exhibit that included afterlife artifacts, pyramids, clay cartouches, books, hieroglyphics, gods and goddesses, papyrus scrolls and even mummified apples.

After completing an entire unit of study in their social studies classes, each team constructed a separate part of the museum, concentrating on a different aspect of the history, culture, beliefs, language and lifestyle of the ancient Egyptians. Then on the opening day of the exhibit, all the students gathered to visit the museum together. Students all received a list of questions to guide them as they explored and learned from each other’s projects.
