In the weeks since the storm, Elizabeth Daitz has not slowed down, organizing a Rock the Recovery networking event that was attended by hundreds of residents and getting notices out through social media, her mobile phone and even by walking door to door to hand out fliers.

“I truly cannot take credit without Steve and Diane,” she said of Torborg and LauKaitis. “They’re amazing, and full-time, around-the-clock volunteers, not just in a time of crisis. They’re my heroes.”

And they looked for the helpers, too — and found Daitz.
