Offense leads Lynbrook over Kennedy
Jeff Wilson/Herald
Lynbrook's Matt Mott had a goal and an assist and led the defense in Monday's 14-9 home playoff victory over Kennedy.

After Racalbuto made it 3-3 early in the second quarter, the Owls scored three unanswered goals — McVeigh, LoCicero and Purdie — to close the opening half on a high note. Lynbrook continued to click at both ends of the field to begin the second half, scoring four straight goals while Mott, Zach Weiss and Eddie Bouhall led the defense as it built a 10-3 advantage.

Racalbuto stopped the bleeding for the Cougars with less than two minutes to go in the third quarter, but Mott answered a minute later with an end-to-end rush that culminated with a rocket into the top shelf. Racalbuto, Jones and Dan Hartman scored early in the fourth to make it 11-7, but they’d get no closer.

“Our transition game is going well,” Leighley said. “I think we’re going to have to score a bunch to beat Long Beach, and our best opportunities may come in transition.”
