North Lynbrook resident celebrates birthday

Olga (Immaculata) Mordente Desposito celebrated her 102nd birthday on June 25 with her family and friends at Sunrise Senior Living of North Lynbrook where she has been residing since April 2003.

Desposito graduated from Hunter College in 1936, when the college was a women’s college preparing graduates to be teachers. She and her beloved husband, Harry, raised their three children in Plainedge; her two daughters followed in her footsteps, becoming teachers, and her son became a physician. Her husband was a mechanical engineer and worked for the federal government designing the mechanical systems for U.S. submarines.

Desposito retired from the Plainview school system where she taught her favorite grades, 1-3. She was often greeted in September with notes on her classroom door from her previous students with updates on their college and graduate school acceptances, engagements and marriages and births of their children.

According to her daughter, Barbara Weisz, on her mother’s 100th birthday, she wondered if perhaps the Good Lord forgot about her as she was still here! Then she decided that the Lord would never forget anyone, but rather decided to give her more time with her family. “Well how lucky are we!” said Weisz. “Happy Birthday!”
