Police seek lone suspect

Posted

Lynbrook police were searching for a lone suspect following an early-morning bank robbery in Philips Plaza on Wednesday.

Police Chief Joseph Neve said that a black man in his mid-40s, wearing a green shirt, entered the Bethpage Federal Credit Union, at 613 Sunrise Highway, at around 9 a.m. The suspect approached one of the tellers with a note that said he was carrying a gun and that he was demanding money. He did not produce a weapon, police said, but the teller gave him $5,000.

There were no injuries during the incident, Neve said, and the suspect fled on foot, headed southbound on Broadway. As the Herald went to press, Lynbrook police had no other information on the robber, but their investigation was continuing.
