Crossing guard assaulted in East Rockaway

15-year-old punched her in the face, police say

A Nassau County crossing guard was assaulted by a fifteen-year-old male while she was on duty at her crossing at the intersection of Centre Avenue and Forrest Avenue on Mar. 17 at 3:30 p.m., according to Nassau County Juvenile Aid Bureau detectives

The subject, who is a student at East Rockaway High School, approached the crossing guard and, for no apparent reason, punched her in the face, police said. After the assault, the crossing guard was able to flag down a passing on-duty Nassau County detective who was able to take the assailant into custody.

The crossing guard was taken to an area hospital where she was treated and released for injuries which included lacerations to her face. The fifteen-year-old male was taken into custody and released to a parent. He will appear in Family Court on Assault and Obstructing Government Administration charges at a later date.

Petit larceny

Rodrigo Leiton, of Lynbrook, was arrested on Mar. 2 at 3:30 p.m. and charged with petit larceny for removing a construction sign, which was in front of a house on Canterbury Gate.
