On Stage

Pagliacci
New York City’s Dicapo Opera Theatre returns to Tilles Center with an enthralling production of Leoncavallo’s Pagliacci. The fully staged production features a live orchestra with English supertitles. Pagliacci is music drama at its finest. This famously tragic play-within-a-play tells the heartbreaking story of betrayal and jealousy in an Italian commedia dell’arte troupe. Theater and reality collide in a climax of operatic proportions when Canio discovers his wife has eyes for another actor. “Laugh, clown, at your broken love!” he exclaims in one of opera’s most legendary arias, Vesti la giubba, the tour-de-force for tenors who both act and sing.
