The East Rockaway Chamber of Commerce held its annual awards and networking dinner on April 11 — nearly five months after it was canceled due to Superstorm Sandy. The East Rockaway Chamber of Commerce hosted its 9th annual Networking Night on April 11 at Rocco’s Catering Hall. Two businesses and one resident were honored for the hard work and dedication to the East Rockaway community.
After School Hair Design and Wherefore Art Thou, both located on Main Street, each received the distinction of Business of the Year. Mary Malloy, editor of the Lynbrook/East Rockaway Herald, was named Woman of the Year.
The event was originally scheduled for November 2012 at the East Rockaway Yacht Club, but due to Hurricane Sandy, it was postponed and relocated. Chamber President Debbie Hirschberg emceed the event and Leg. Fran Becker made a special appearance to honor all of the award winners.
“It was an outstanding night,” Hirschberg said. “I was glad we could honor Mary, Wherefore Art Thou and After Shock. We had a lot of people and I think everybody had a great time.”
