East Rockaway Clerk-Treasurer Doris Piedimonte, 50, was suspended from her job last Friday as village officials continued to investigate her May 5 arrest on shoplifting charges. Village Attorney John Ryan said that Piedimonte, a resident of Valley Stream, was suspended with pay.

According to a 4th Precinct police report, Piedimonte was arrested at the J.C. Penney store in the Green Acres Mall in Valley Stream. A public information officer added that she was charged with petit larceny.

Piedimonte was appointed East Rockaway’s deputy clerk-comptroller in January 2003, a position she held until April 2011, when she was appointed clerk-treasurer. According to the village website, the village clerk collects taxes, issues parking permits for the municipal lots, organizes board meetings and manages the budget.
