What could more clever than naming a sandwich shop, “Super Heros?”  In this case, credit for this creative branding goes to 6-year-old Giovanni Cook, a first-grader at Polk Street School in Franklin Square.

“If kids are ever going to be super heroes, they need to eat like super heroes,” he told his parents. Joann and William Cook listened, and turned their inspiration into a reality. This was their opportunity to act on a mutual desire to provide families with a healthy alternative to traditional fast food, which is often devoid of nutritional value, and filled with chemicals and fat.

Their feeling is that many people don’t have the time or schedule to always cook and prepare at home. But that doesn’t mean it’s necessary to sacrifice the health of one’s family, particularly the children. So the Cooks formed a plan to offer fast food one can trust, something to can feel good about serving the family. Bottom line: fast food need not be junk food.

Super Heros offers hero sandwiches and Paninis made of all natural ingredients … right down to the bread. Meat and cheeses are all rBGH-free, antibiotic-free and preservative-free. Recombinant Bovine Growth Hormone (rBGH) is a synthetic hormone injected into cows to increase milk production and growth rate. They purchase only meats and cheeses that come from farms that use natural practices and treat animals humanely. Animals are fed a high quality vegetarian diet only.

Heros are sumptuous, available in two sizes: 6” or 12”, super stacked or toasted. Paninis are served hot. Meats and cheeses are sliced freshly for each order. Homemade natural soups are another option. There’s a “Kid’s Combo” — three-inch hero with chips and juice box, and a “Panini Bambini” for those under 12. “Grilled Chicken Sweet Onion Teriyaki” tops the list of toasted hot heros, and super stacked heros can come in favorites like the “Italiano” or a smoked turkey club. Italian Paninis, like the “Calabrese” (spicy cappicola, fresh mozzarella, tomatoes, roasted peppers, herbed mayo and Balsamic), or the grilled vegetable Milano are mouth-watering choices too.

Customers can dine at tables, take out, and call ahead for an order to be picked up, or get a delivery. Orders can be called in, faxed or created online. Their catering menu includes party heros from three to six feet and/or Panini platters with or without salads.

Super Heros is now offering franchise opportunities. Information is available on their web site. Store hours are 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
