Lynbrook Fire Department responds

Posted

A fire of undetermined origin at a two family home at 90 Driving Park Avenue in Lynbrook on December 23 is under investigation by the Nassau County Fire Marshal and the Village of Lynbrook’s Building Department after it appeared that an illegal bedroom existed in the basement where the fire originated.

The Lynbrook Fire Department was dispatched to the home at 10:45 p.m. for a reported basement fire. Heavy smoke emitted from windows on the first and second floors of the home as one line was taken down the basement stairs to a bedroom, which was on fire.

When the firefighters entered the house, three male occupants were found inside and they were escorted out. An immediate search of the home was made after FIRECOM notified all units of a possible missing person in the home. This turned out to be unfounded, as all occupants had already been removed from the house.

The Malverne Fire Department sent a fast team to the scene while East Rockaway and Rockville Centre departments sent an engine and ladder, respectively, to stand-by to cover other Lynbrook alarms.

Before Lynbrook firefighters left, members of the Lynbrook Building Department were on scene conducting their own investigation of the home.

Lynbrook firefighters were at the scene till after 12:30 AM. One firefighter was injured.
