I love Math Day adds fun to school

Posted

To coincide with Valentine’s Day, third graders in all three elementary schools in the Lynbrook School District celebrated I Love Math Day. Wearing their school T-shirts, students rotated from room to room to visit four different math stations.

At the first station, students practiced graphing skills by taking a poll of everyone’s favorite breed of dog, and then charting and analyzing the results using bar graphs. At the second station, students used estimating and measurement skills by measuring their height and arm span to determine if the relationship between the two was square or rectangular. To study geometry, they employed wooden polygons of various shapes and colors to create stained-glass designs, and then analyzed how the pieces fit together to form different patterns. At the Multiplication Station, students used a dice game to practice the times tables.
