Kitchen fire in East Rockaway

Posted

On Friday, April 1, at 3:13 p.m., the East Rockaway Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a house fire at 5 Cail Drive.

The first unit on scene was Assistant Chief Ed Reicherter, who reported to all responding units that there was “smoke showing.” Reicherter entered the residence where he provided additional information that there was a working kitchen fire. A 1-3/4” hose line was stretched in the front door to the kitchen to quickly knock down the fire.

Truck Company gained immediate access to the attic to ensure that the fire had not spread. The fire was contained to the kitchen with minimal water damage. There was, however, extensive smoke damage to the house.

ERFD Chief Joseph Mihalich stated that there were no injuries and that while the fire was not suspicious, the Nassau County Fire Marshal’s Office had been contacted for a routine investigation to determine the cause. “The quick and efficient work of the department had saved the home from further damage,” he said.
