Let the voters beware

To the Editor:
In response to Pride Party President Ed Zangrillo’s refusal to participate in the March 1 debate, I responded directly to him as follows:
“As a compromise I agreed to your rather bizarre proposal of three moderators (even Presidential debates only have one), two of whom have no knowledge of any of the issues. I agreed to the Rocco’s site even though they are major contributors of yours and prominently display your signs. I agreed to having the moderators be the only one asking questions, while our residents would not be able to provide any input as to what they wanted answered. Our candidates were more than willing to participate in this one- sided affair because they have nothing to hide. All I asked in return was to meet on March 1 under the direction of the League of Women Voters and to give the residents the chance to have their questions asked by that organization. What were the other conditions you accuse me of? Instead you disparaged the League, you insult the Hewlett-East Rockaway Jewish Centre as not being a worthy place to hold the event, and you shut out the Southwest portion of our village —the same way you have done for the last 12 years. FYI, the HERJC had indicated to us that they were willing to host a debate months ago.  They sent the e-mail to their members on their own. Let Fran Lenahan and his ticket stand up for themselves in public. Stop hiding. At least make an attempt at leadership — even at this late date.”
The utter contempt shown our citizens through this whole process is only highlighted by Zangrillo’s refusal to even compromise with a willing opponent. Let the voters beware. This is the government that the Pride Party wants to bring to East Rockaway.
Vote Meagher-Klose-Levitt on March 15.

The quality of life

To the Editor:
Everyone talks about the quality of life in East Rockaway. That’s fine, but isn’t money a part of the quality of life? The more money I have, the better the quality of my family’s life.
