L.I. comedy exists, and it's good

Posted

Some Long Islanders visit New York City to enjoy comedy, without realizing they have great venues in their own backyard.

Governor’s of Levittown and The Brokerage Comedy Club in Bellmore feature entertaining lineups year-round. And not only do these comedy clubs feature famous comedians such as Andrew Dice Clay, Gilbert Gottfried and Nick DePaolo, they feature local comedians.

Eric Tartaglione, a native Long Islander, has been featured at The Brokerage and Governor’s on amateur night, and as an opener for various headliners. Recently, Tartaglione rose to a headlining spot of his own. Having been featured on satellite radio and NBC’s "Last Comic Standing," he has become nationally renowned.

Despite his wide popularity, Tartaglione still performs locally, and will be returning to The Brokerage on Sept. 2 at 9 p.m. and Sept. 3 at 8 p.m. and 10:30 p.m.

Tartaglione is great at targeting his Long Island audience with topics that range from the celebrities from MTV’s Jersey Shore to local personalities. He appeals to all ages, as he discusses his difficulty in dealing with aging and his family, while poking fun at his Italian heritage.

Tartaglione is proof that we have local talent. More locals just need to realize it.
