Lynbrook Titans wrestling coaches honor Hilary Becker

Posted

Longtime coach Hilary Becker was honored by past and present Lynbrook Titan’s Youth Wrestling team coaches at a special gathering held at Angelina’s Restaurant last week. “I’m so proud of him,” said Leg. Francis Becker of his brother’s 30 years with the team. “Not just his coaching, but his family, his real estate business — he gives it his all, and does it all ethically.”

“I’ve known Hilary for most of my life,” said coach Richie Renz. “He’s like my brother. Any problem, I could always call Hilary. My family loves him, they treat him like he’s part of the family.”

Many coaches got up in turn to fondly “roast” Becker. The Titans program was founded by the Beckers’ uncle, Bob, 35 years ago. Hilary Becker began participating as a junior at Lynbrook High School, and just a decade later, he took over for his uncle. The program also has grown, boasting around 160 boys ages 6-12, including some enthusiastic 4 or 5-year-olds from Lynbrook and other communities. The program promotes confidence, self-discipline, positive self-esteem and self-respect.

“I had a great time celebrating 30 years of coaching with my friends and family.,” said Hilary Becker. “I greatly appreciated all of the kind words expressed by my fellow coaches. Coaching the young men for the past 30 years has truly been a blessing, and I am grateful for all of the wonderful memories.”

The other long-time and new coaches include Kevin Murphy, Richie Renz, John Baeyens, Doug Stein, Dave Kotkin, Jamie Johnson, James O’ Hara, Joe Tomasello, Frank Balasso, Matt Duffy, Gary Lorrea, Jason Risoritto, Rollo Sorace and Frank Dillapi. Under their guidance, the group usually participates in 3 or 4 tournaments at gyms around Nassau and Suffolk County each year. Participants are paired by size, age, weight class and skill level in those tournaments.
