Barra not running again

Putting rumors to rest, Lynbrook Trustee Hilary Becker announced at Monday's board meeting that Mayor Brian Curran will be the Republican nominee for Assemblyman Bob Barra's seat in the 21st Assembly District. An official announcement is set for Wednesday night at the Nassau County Republican Convention.

"It looks like a pretty solid thing that he will be their nominee," Becker said of Curran. "It's an incredible opportunity for him. He's a young, dynamic, hard worker. He works hard for the people."

Barra has decided to step down after five terms due to health concerns and his belief in "giving young people the chance to move up and capture their dreams."

"It is now time to pass the torch to a new generation of lawmaker," Barra said. "I welcome the chance to assist that new Assembly member, one elected by the people in this upcoming November election, in any possible way. I am confident that together we will leave the fabulous 14th Assembly District in good hands."
