Department holds reorganization ceremony
The East Rockaway Fire Department held their Annual Reorganization meeting On April 19. The new Chief of Department, Peter C Chojnacki, was sworn in to office at the Liberty Hose Company # 2 firehouse on Clark Street.
Chojnacki is a 19-year member of the department; has served as Captain of Liberty Hose Company # 2, and served three terms as Captain of the Floodlight Heavy Rescue Squad, he is a NYS Emergency Medical Technician, and also is a member of the departments Rescue Squad.
Chojnacki is a veteran of the U.S. Army, where he served as a paratrooper and encrypted communications specialist. He is also a veteran of Operation Desert Storm. He is married to his wife, Stacy for 11 years, and the father of three children.
Chojnacki is the 1st former Junior Firefighter in the history of the East Rockaway Fire Department to rise to the rank of Chief of Department.
The First Assistant Chief of the East Rockaway Fire Department is Steven R. Torborg; The Second Assistant Chief is Ed Reicherter, and the Third Assistant Chief is James Henshaw.
